Why Allison?
"As a carer in our community who has lived here for over 20 years, I have seen how things have got tougher and tougher over that time. Whether it is cuts to bin collections, potholes in the road, or struggling to get an appointment at a doctor or dentist, the public services we rely on are coming apart at the seams.
Meanwhile, Council Tax goes up and up, piling more pressure on all of us as the cost-of-living crisis bites. This year's record-breaking hike of 9.5% in Flintshire's Council Tax - the biggest in the county's history - feels like an insult when we see less and less for it.
That's why I'm standing in this by-election. I've never been involved in politics before, but I know what fair looks like, and this isn't it. I see first-hand the consequences of cuts to services and huge Council Tax rises every day, at work and on my own family, and I believe we can do better.
I have always been someone who gets involved, like serving as the treasurer of the Parent-Teacher Association at my son's school, and if you elect me, you have my commitment - I will show up and do the job.
I will fight for you. I will fight for every penny the Council has to be spent on solving real problems, like tackling flooding in Leeswood & Pontblyddyn, and getting the basics right, like fixing potholes, collecting the bins on time, and giving our children the best possible education. To do that, I will target the waste we all know exists - and which Flintshire People's Voice has already found hundreds of thousands of pounds of examples.
I will vote against extortionate increases in Council Tax.
Things can get better. For too long, the big parties at Westminster, and the Labour-Independent coalition at Flintshire, have accepted what they call 'managed decline'. I don't wany any more of that for our home, and I don't think you do either."
Why Flintshire People's Voice?
Flintshire People's Voice was founded in 2024 by councillors who refused to accept that "managed decline" was the best that Flintshire residents could expect from their council. Since then, FPV councillors have led the fight back against record-breaking council tax rises and crippling cuts to public services.
FPV councillors have exposed millions of pounds of waste at Flintshire County Council - from hundreds of thousands spent rebranding leisure centres and £50,000 on Facebook adverts, to expanding the cabinet and then paying external consultants tens of thousands to tell those cabinet members how to do their jobs. Public money has even been spent on ice cream, pizza and burgers for senior councillors.
National parties often talk about tackling council waste, but Flintshire People's Voice is doing the work - finding waste, exposing it, and fighting in the council chamber to stop it. And unlike national parties, FPV takes no instructions from party headquarters or politicians outside Flintshire who don't live here and don't understand our communities.
Flintshire People's Voice is also the only political party in Flintshire with a full and up-to-date manifesto setting out clear commitments and practical policies for a bright future. You can read our full manifesto at www.fpv.wales/what-we-stand-for. Or if you'd like a printed copy, please email contact@fpv.wales and we'll send one to you.
In Leeswood & Pontblyddyn - as across Flintshire - we want to see a Council that listens, acts, and delivers for residents. That's what Flintshire People's Voice is here to do - local people, standing up for local communities. To find out more about FPV, go to www.fpv.wales.
Fixing our roads is one of my top priorities. Throughout our community, our roads are in a terrible state of repair after years of budget cuts. Commuting and travelling has become a nightmare, with sometimes costly vehicle repair bills for residents hitting deep potholes. I will fight for Leeswood & Pontblyddyn to get our fair share of the road maintenance budget, and will bring forward proposals within six months to get additional roads fixed here.
I will also work with the police to tackle anti-social behaviour and speeding through our villages.
I will fight proposals to merge Leeswood and Pontblyddyn by filling in the green space between the two communities. This was proposed in the council's Local Development Plan (LDP) process - fortunately it was not taken forward - but was graded an "amber" option rather than "red". When the plan expires in 2030, all bets are off, and developers could seek to make a quick buck by destroying our rural setting with large estates of predominantly unaffordable houses.
I will press for a new plan to be in place on time, protecting our community from overdevelopment.
Addressing the flood risk faced by our community has been a focus of FPV councillors on Flintshire council, and will be a top priority for me too. Earlier this year, FPV councillors brought a cross-party report that made 16 recommendations to tackle flooding in Flintshire - unfortunately, the Labour-Independent coalition voted to block their adoption.
The solutions are there - it's time to get them put in place.
Public transport should serve the public, not private profit. That means not only protecting our existing bus links, but providing services that run later into the evening and on Sundays.
To make that happen, as your councillor I'll press for the council to start running its own bus services, using money from profitable routes to fund services connecting rural communities, instead of letting it be extracted by private companies.
Flintshire People's Voice councillors show up, do the work, and hold the council to account. FPV councillors have the highest attendance rate of all councillors on Flintshire County Council, and table more motions and questions than all other political groups combined.
In my job as a carer, I don't have the option of not showing up - because people rely on me. I'm not afraid of a hard day's work, and if elected, I will show up, work hard, and always vote in the best interests of residents in Leeswood & Pontblyddyn.
Like many people, I'm sick of politicians who turn up and ask for your vote and then disappear once they're elected. I'm not a career politician - I'm a carer who has never stood for election before. But I'm driven to do so by the cuts to our public services and the hikes to our council tax bills.
A vote for me is a vote for a proactive councillor who will provide all residents with regular posted newsletters, keeping you up to date with the work I'm doing on your behalf in our community, and at county hall.
